Business Growth — July 2026 — Q3 Quarterly Conversations
I’m a few quarterly conversations into this new season with my coaching clients, and one question keeps coming up in a different form every time: why hasn’t this moved yet?
The goal is set. The plan is written down. And yet the case count looks the same as it did last quarter. The calendar looks the same as it did last month. The marketing looks the same as it’s looked for a year. That’s a plateau — and a plateau doesn’t fix itself just because you’ve named a goal.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth underneath it: we can’t keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. Tony Robbins has built a career on this idea, and it’s still the best starting point I know:
“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.”
— Tony Robbins
If that quote made you a little uncomfortable, good. That discomfort is useful. It usually means you already know what’s stalled — you just haven’t decided to change it yet.
Momentum Starts With Motion
Every firm owner I coach who’s plateaued has one thing in common: they’re waiting for the perfect plan before they’ll act. The perfect marketing strategy. The perfect hire. The perfect quarter to finally get serious.
There is no perfect plan. There’s only activity — and activity is what breaks a plateau, not planning.
On the personal side, that might look as simple as hitting 10,000 steps a day. It won’t transform your health overnight, but it changes your trajectory, and that trajectory compounds. On the professional side, it looks like increased activity around marketing: the coffees, the breakfasts, the lunches and dinners, showing up at events or conferences, joining a marketing group you’ve been putting off. None of these guarantee a client or a case on day one. What they guarantee is motion, and motion is what momentum is built from.
If you’re stuck, the fix usually isn’t a new strategy. It’s more activity around the strategy you already have.
Three moves to break a plateau this week:
- Move your body. Aim for 10,000 steps a day this week. Track it. Don’t overthink it, just move. A plateaued firm is almost always run by a plateaued leader, and that starts with your own energy and health.
- Move your calendar. Book one coffee, breakfast, lunch, or dinner with a referral source this week. Just one. Plateaus survive on empty calendars.
- Move your network. Sign up for one event, conference, or marketing group you’ve been putting off. Then go. New rooms create opportunities your current routine simply can’t.
Why Feeling Stalled Is a Signal, Not Bad Luck
If your firm has been flat for two quarters or more, that’s not a coincidence. It’s a sign the system that got you here won’t get you to the next level on its own. That’s exactly the plateau I help law firm owners and founders break through — not with a bigger to-do list, but with a clear-eyed look at where activity has quietly stopped.
What This Looks Like in a Coaching Relationship
I work with law firm owners and business founders who are serious about growth — not the kind that happens by accident, but the kind engineered over 90-day cycles with honest accountability and a clear framework.
Here’s what we actually do together:
- Audit where your activity has flatlined against the goal you set for this quarter
- Build a weekly plan around the 2-3 activities that are the true leading indicators of momentum
- Design the personal habits — movement, energy, health — that make the professional push sustainable
- Run quarterly review sessions that hold you accountable to the activity you said you’d commit to, not just the outcome you said you wanted
The result isn’t just a bigger firm. It’s a leader who’s back in motion.
Come Create Some Activity With Me
If you’re looking for an easy way to put this into practice, come create some activity with me in person. I’m speaking at two events this fall:
Lunch Hour Legal Marketing Summit — August 11–13, Nashville, TN. Register here and use code LHLMKELLER for $150 off your ticket.
Case Status CX Summit — September 16–18, Charleston, SC. Register here.
I’m also on the host committee for a Block Party for Schnelle Tonge for Judge on Thursday, July 30, 5:30–7:30 PM at 332 Evernia Street, West Palm Beach. It’s free to attend, donations welcome. RSVP here.
Come say hello — there’s no faster way to break out of a plateau than getting in a room with people already moving.
One Small Change Is All It Takes This Week
You don’t need the perfect plan this week. You need activity. The momentum, and the results that follows it, will take care of itself.
If you read this and felt a pull — if something here named a gap you’ve been aware of but haven’t addressed — that’s worth paying attention to.
I work with a small group of law firm owners and founders at a time. I don’t take on volume — I take on people who are serious about building something significant and are willing to do the daily work to get there.
If that’s you, let’s talk. The conversation is free. The clarity you walk away with is not.
30 minutes. No pitch. Just clarity on where you are, where you want to go, and whether working together makes sense.
