Raising My Standards: Reflections on the Crisp Game Changers Summit

By November 22, 2024December 2nd, 2024No Comments

In November 2022, I took a leap of faith that would forever change the trajectory of my personal and professional life. I attended my first Crisp Game Changers Summit at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, not fully realizing the impact it would have. That day, inspired by the incredible energy in the room and the vision shared by Michael Mogill and his team, I decided to join the Crisp Coach community. It was a decision rooted in hope for transformation—not just for my law firm but for myself as a leader, husband, and father.

Fast forward two years to November 2024, and I found myself walking onto the stage at the Crisp Game Changers Summit, now a panelist on the Legal Leaders Panel. The honor of being invited to share my journey alongside other inspiring leaders was nothing short of humbling. But as I stood there, I knew this achievement wasn’t mine alone. It was the result of a team effort, built on the hard work and dedication of every person who contributes to our firm’s success.

The Power of Raising Your Standards

This year’s Summit theme, Raise Your Standards, could not have been more fitting. Over the course of two days, I had the opportunity to hear from some of the most powerful and inspiring speakers, each offering invaluable insights on leadership, growth, and transformation.

  • Nick Saban, the legendary Alabama football coach, shared profound wisdom about building a championship-level team. One of his standout messages was about the mindset shifts necessary for success. He emphasized that anxiety or nervousness about public speaking—or any challenge—is often rooted in worrying about what others think of you. To overcome it, he encouraged us to focus instead on the value we bring to the table. That shift in perspective—away from self-consciousness and toward service—is transformative.
  • Will Guidara, author of Unreasonable Hospitality, spoke about creating unforgettable experiences for those we serve. His message resonated deeply with me as I thought about how we can elevate the client experience in our firm, going beyond expectations to deliver something truly exceptional.
  • Morgan HouselEric ThomasJohn Morgan, and others delivered equally powerful messages, each reinforcing the idea that success is built on the standards we set for ourselves and the teams we lead.

Gratitude and Reflection

As much as the Summit was about learning, it was also a time for reflection and gratitude. The encouraging messages I received from my team and colleagues about being featured as a panelist were incredibly humbling. But the truth is, the recognition belongs to my team. Without their hard work and dedication, none of this would have been possible. It’s because of them that we’ve achieved so much, from being nominated for Crisp Select Law Firm of the Year to building a culture of excellence that sets us apart.

The Challenge to Raise Our Standards

One of the most impactful takeaways from the Summit was the challenge to raise our standards—not just for ourselves but for the teams we lead and the communities we serve. Excellence must be the standard in everything we do. Mediocrity has no place in a high-performing team or in the pursuit of meaningful goals.

As I reflect on my journey from that first Summit in 2022 to where I stand today, I’m reminded that transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistent effort, a commitment to growth, and the willingness to embrace challenges head-on.

What’s Next

The Summit left me inspired to not only continue raising my own standards but to challenge my team to do the same. Between now and the end of the year, I encourage everyone to reflect on this question: What will you do to raise your standards in your personal and professional life? And just as importantly, What will you bring to your team to help us achieve true excellence?

Attending the Crisp Game Changers Summit was a powerful reminder of the importance of surrounding yourself with people who challenge you, inspire you, and push you to be better. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from some of the greatest minds, share my journey, and continue striving toward a future built on excellence.

To Michael, Jessica, and the entire Crisp team: thank you for creating a community that empowers leaders to dream bigger and achieve more. And to my team: this journey wouldn’t be possible without you.

Let’s finish the year strong and keep striving for greatness.
